Transmitting the charms of Shibuya via Instagram
- Large-scale redevelopment focused on the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games is transforming the Shibuya district. But there is more to this district than new buildings and urban development.
- People. About 300,000 people per day are said to cross Shibuya Crossing. Locals, businesspeople, tourists. A variety of people make up the charm of Shibuya; people singing in the streets, people walking around wearing highly individual fashion, people taking pictures of these fashionistas, people lining up to buy bubble tea... Everyone in this normal, casual scene is somehow fascinating. They seem to shine. Shibuya City Tourism Association Inc. posts individual shots like these as the “Shibuya Instagram Gallery.” What we see captured in these fascinating images is undeniably Shibuya, and not Shinjuku, Ikebukuro, Shinagawa, Nagoya or Osaka. The attraction of Shibuya is change. A new Shibuya is continually being created through the gathering and intermingling of many people and diverse cultures from all over the world. It is always, constantly changing. The Instagram gallery communicates the fun and interest of this constant change.
- Will you enjoy a neighborhood or not? Will the city of the future be attractive or not? You might well be able to tell by the people you see on its streets.
